Norway Confirms Avian Flu in Wild Birds
(MENAFN) Norwegian authorities have confirmed an outbreak of avian influenza in wild bird populations across two northern counties, media reported Wednesday. The virus has been detected in 12 separate locations in the Troms and Nordland regions during August and September, according to officials.
Hege Osen, head of the production animal division at the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet), stated: "Avian influenza has been detected in 12 different locations across Nordland and Troms in August and September." The outbreak has prompted alerts in the Bodo municipality, the capital of Nordland County.
The avian flu, which poses a deadly threat to birds, primarily spreads among avian species. While authorities assured that the risk of human transmission remains extremely low, they strongly advised the public to avoid any direct contact with sick or deceased birds.
